The 2023 season was a short one for Williams. Starting the year as the second option in Justin Herbert’s high-octane offense, the wideout played in just three games before suffering a season-ending ACL injury. In total, the former first-round pick finished the season with just 19 receptions for 249 yards and one touchdown on 26 targets. The 2024 season was supposed to be the final year of his contract, but the Chargers released Mike Williams to save $20 million in cap space.

Mike Williams originally entered the league as a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Selected by the Los Angeles Chargers, the Clemson product had a slow start to his career. Appearing in just 10 games while making one start, the rookie finished his inaugural season with just 11 receptions for 95 yards on 23 targets.

Fortunately, Williams was able to overcome his disappointing season. The second-year pro earned a larger role in 201, appearing in all 16 games while recording 43 receptions for 664 yards and 10 touchdowns. He continued to grow in 2019, earning a full-time starting job while recording 49 receptions for 1,001 yards and two touchdowns in the final year of the Philip Rivers Era.

Williams’ best season came in 2021. Appearing in 16 of a possible 17 games, the wide receiver finished the season with 76 receptions for 1,146 yards and nine touchdowns on 129 targets. Each one of these marks remains a career-best, except for his touchdowns.

Since signing his rookie contract, Mike Williams has appeared in 88 games while making 62 starts. While on the field, the Clemson product has recorded 309 receptions for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns. Despite having strong quarterback play throughout his career, he is still looking for his first postseason victory.
