The 2023 season was an interesting contract year for Chase Young. After battling injuries for most of 2021 and 2022, the former second-overall pick finally stayed healthy by appearing in 16 regular season games. Starting the season with the Washington Commanders, Young recorded five sacks, 15 tackles, six tackles-for-loss, and nine quarterback hits in seven games.

However, with the season going poorly, Washington eventually decided to trade Chase Young to the San Francisco 49ers. Young has mixed results with San Francisco, as there were multiple instances where he appeared uninterested and gave up on plays. In total, Young played nine regular season game for the 49ers, recording 2.5 sacks, 10 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and six quarterback hits. During the playoff run, the pass rusher recorded an additional one sack, six tackles, two tackles-for-loss, and two quarterback hits.

Chase Young originally entered the league as a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Selected by the Washington Commanders, several draft analysts believed Young to be a generational pass rusher and the best prospect to enter the draft since Myles Garrett.

As a rookie, the Ohio State product lived up to those lofty projections. Starting and appearing in all 15 games, the edge defender finished his inaugural campaign with 7.5 sacks, 44 tackles, 10 tackles-for-loss, 12 quarterback hits, and four forced fumbles. This impressive campaign earned him a trip to the Pro Bowl while taking home Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Unfortunately, Young was never able to recapture that rookie magic. Chase Young only appeared in 12 games over the next two seasons, recording a paltry 1.5 sacks during that timeframe. Since signing his rookie contract, Chase Young has recorded 16.5 sacks in 43 games.
