Trey Benson Dynasty Outlook – Fantasy Football

Trey Benson is going to be a valuable piece for dynasty rosters this fall. Where should we be drafting him?
Trey Benson Dynasty Outlook

The 2024 NFL Draft class doesn’t have a Bijan Robinson, or a Breece Hall. But it does have between five and eight very capable backs, and Benson is right in the conversation for RB1 in the class. Let’s jump into what Trey Benson brings to the NFL, and his dynasty outlook as it stands now.

Trey Benson Dynasty Outlook

The History

As covered in his scouting report by Timothy Rodriguez, Benson was a highly touted recruit who has been an important cog in a highly talented Florida State offense. His college career started at Oregon, but after suffering a catastrophic knee injury entered the transfer portal. Benson was highly sought after, and settled on Florida State. He’d go on to lead the team in rushing yards, and exploded for 15 touchdowns this past season.

The Situation

There has only been one draft without a running back taken in the top 50 since the Vietnam war. Unless you think this is the second-worst class since color television, pencil in a running back or two to go top 50. If this were a betting article, Benson would be a safe bet to be the first or second back off the board. While he does have an injury history, the next talented back Jonathon Brooks is currently dealing with his ACL tear, while Benson can immediately benefit a team and our dynasty rosters. Early running back rankings had Brooks ahead of Benson, but after deep diving the film, Benson gets a slight edge.

What to do With Trey Benson in Dynasty Fantasy Football

Draft him with confidence. Benson has the size. He has the speed. He has all of the tools in his toolkit to be an effective running back in the NFL. Is he going to rival Bijan Robinson and Breece Hall for the top dog? Likely not. But he can slot in immediately as an RB2 with upside on your rosters. Especially if he lands with the Chargers, Ravens or Panthers.

Rebuilding Teams

If he’s available at the 2.01, jump on him. Running backs are a diminishing asset for rebuilders, but his value is going to skyrocket in October after a couple of long runs. He has game breaking speed and positive contact balance, so his highlights are going to make managers fall in love. Whether he’s the piece that turns your rebuild into a competitor, or you can flip him for a profit he’s an easy smash at the 2.01.

Stuck in the Middle

If your roster is in the middle, it’s unlikely you get a chance at Benson. 1.06 is too early to pick him, 2.06 he probably won’t be there. Don’t move back from the first seven picks with all certified studs, but moving up from 2.06 to 1.11/2.01 range is probably too expensive. Draft him if you can, but don’t overpay to go grab him.

Competitors

Absolutely hilarious. You just won your league. You’re reading articles in March to get ready for your rookie drafts so you can crush it again. Now you get to choose between Diontae Johnson with rockets strapped to his back, the RB1 in the class or another side speed freak. Sometimes dynasty doesn’t have to be hard, just take the best player available (likely one of those three) and enjoy the profits.

Last Word on Trey Benson Dynasty Outlook

It wouldn’t surprise anyone if he’s a top 12 dynasty back this time next year. With how the vaunted 2017 class has aged out, and no one has taken the mantle yet, any younger back scoring solid points is a needle in a haystack. He has all the skills to pay the bills, and should be drafted with confidence as early as 1.09 in Superflex leagues and 1.05 in 1QB.
