Arthur Smith is reportedly signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers to be their new offensive coordinator, per Tom Pelissero. He replaces Matt Canada, who was with the team for three seasons and famously never had a 400-yard game.

Arthur Smith spent time with the Atlanta Falcons as the Head Coach for three seasons. The team finished with a 7-10 record all three seasons, and he was the first head coach fired of the off-season. Before his head coaching stint, he was the offensive coordinator with the Tennessee Titans, and coached the team to the third and 11th best total offense. He was the coordinator for Derrick Henry’s 2000-yard season.

Arthur Smith got his start coaching at the University of North Carolina as an assistant in 2006, before moving to the Washington Commanders in 2007 as the defensive quality control coach. He served in that role for two seasons before moving to Ole Miss as a defensive intern in 2010. Smith moved back to the NFL in 2011 with the Tennessee Titans.

His initial role was defensive quality control, then in 2012 became the offensive quality control coach. He climbed the ranks in Tennessee, becoming the offensive line coach the following season. Smith worked with the tight ends in Tennessee from 2014-2018, where he began his work with Jonnu Smith. During his tenure, a tight end led the team in receiving yards (2017) with Delanie Walker having an outstanding season. In 2019 he was promoted to offensive coordinator and retained that role in 2020. He spotlighted A.J. Brown and Derrick Henry in their gameplans before moving to Atlanta as the Head Coach.

He is expected to bring experience to a role in Pittsburgh that has needed a change for over a season. He has more than a decade of experience at the professional level more than Matt Canada when Canada was hired.
