Chris Godwin Will Be In Tampa Bay Next Year

Chris Godwin had yet another fantastic season in 2021. Starting and appearing in 14 games, the former third-round pick recorded a career-high 98 receptions for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns. He had five games with 100 or more receiving yards, including two separate contests where he cleared 140. Unfortunately, Godwin’s season came to a premature end when he suffered a season-ending ACL injury in Week 15 against the New Orleans Saints.

Godwin initially entered the NFL as a third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the wideout began his career as a depth option but still managed to record 34 receptions for 525 yards and a touchdown. He followed this up by recording 59 receptions for 842 yards and seven touchdowns in 2018.

Godwin finally had a chance to start in 2019 and proved that he was one of the NFL’s elite weapons. Starting and appearing in 14 games, the wide receiver finished his breakout campaign with 86 receptions for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns. Despite missing the playoffs, this impressive campaign earned Godwin his first trip to the Pro Bowl.

Godwin’s 2020 kicked off with a quarterback change, and the former third-round pick quickly became a favorite of Tom Brady. While injuries limited him to just 12 games, he still managed to record 65 receptions for 840 yards and seven touchdowns. Godwin also played an instrumental role in Tampa Bay’s Super Bowl run, recording 16 receptions for 232 yards and one touchdown over the four contests. Following this successful season, the Buccaneers used the franchise tag to ensure Godwin would return for one more season.

Throughout the course of his career, Godwin has recorded a combined 342 receptions for 4,643 yards and 29 touchdowns on 482 targets.
