Mike Gesicki continued to be a rising star at the tight end position in 2021, as he finished with 73 catches for 780 yards (both career-highs) and two touchdowns. Due in part to the team dealing with a lot of injuries with pass-catchers, he became more of a primary target at times and finished second on the team in receiving only behind Jaylen Waddle.

Gesicki played football in high school at Southern Regional High in Manahawkin, New Jersey. He then played in college at Penn State from 2014 to 2017 and finished Third-Team All-Big Ten in 2016. The Dolphins drafted him in the second round in 2018. Gesicki was quiet in his rookie year as he finished with only 202 yards and no touchdowns. And though he began to break out down the stretch in 2019, it still took him until Week 12 to get his first career touchdown. In 2019 he finished with 570 yards and five touchdowns.

He had a more proper breakout season in 2020, as he had a 100-yard game for the first time in Week 2 (eight catches for 130 yards and a touchdown). That season saw him finish with 53 catches for 703 yards and six touchdowns. The latter number remains a career-high. He also showed ability as a deep threat, finishing with 13.3 yards per catch.

Thus far in his career, Gesicki has 199 catches for 2,255 yards and 13 touchdowns. Though he will likely have a little more competition in 2022 with more players being healthy, he will look to keep his rising star status going, and the Dolphins will keep one of their more high-profile targets.
