What Experts Expect For Jacksonville Jaguars Other First Round Pick

Jacksonville will be on the clock in just under 24 hours, and what do the experts expect from the Jaguars other first round pick?
Jaguars First Round Pick

The NFL Draft is finally here, and the Jacksonville Jaguars are going to select Trevor Lawrence with the first-overall pick. It’s the worst-kept secret in football – you know it, I know it, it’s inevitable. However, thanks to a trade with the Los Angeles Rams, the Jaguars also have another first round pick, and nobody knows exactly what Jacksonville plans on doing with that selection. So, without further ado, let’s see what the experts expect from Jacksonville.

Predictions For Jacksonville Jaguars First Round Pick in 2021 NFL Draft

Benjamin Allbright – Jayson Oweh, EDGE

Jayson Oweh NFL Draft Profile

Jayson Oweh is one of the hardest evaluations in this entire class. From a traits perspective, the defensive lineman has just about everything you’d hope to see in a prospect. However, the production just isn’t there. Oweh didn’t record a single sack during his final year in college, which is obviously a major red flag. However, we know that sacks are volatile, and he was generating pressure throughout his collegiate tenure. This was probably just a fluke, and he should be a good NFL player, albeit probably not a great one.

Tony Pauline – Trevon Moehrig, S

Trevon Moehrig NFL Draft Profile

TCU safety Trevon Moehrig is one of the safest prospects in this class with one of the highest ceilings. Moehrig has all the tools necessary to play on all three downs, knows how to get to the ball carrier in the run game and has the instincts, range, and ball skills to play all over the formation on passing downs.

If Moehrig’s 2020 season is indicative of who he’ll be at the NFL level, then Jacksonville should get a solid starter on a rookie deal. However, if he ends up playing like he did in 2019, then he could turn into one of the best safeties in football. Last year was a relatively disappointing one for the TCU product, considering how high he set the bar two seasons ago. Either way, he’s easily worth a first round investment.

Will Brinson – Christian Barmore, DL

Christian Barmore NFL Draft Profile

Christian Barmore chose a good year to declare for the NFL Draft. In what is perhaps the weakest defensive tackle class in recent memory, Barmore stands alone as the only prospect that could realistically emerge as an above-average starter. Weighing in at 6’-5” and 310 pounds, the Alabama product has the size to stand his ground against the run and the speed to blow past centers and collapse the pocket on passing plays. He’s no Aaron Donald, but he should be a pretty solid starter that could contribute right away.

James Rapien (SI) – Alijah Vera-Tucker, IOL

Alijah Vera-Tucker NFL Draft Profile

The most important part of any rebuild is securing the quarterback position, and the Jaguars are going to do with the first-overall pick. The second most important part is making sure that said quarterback isn’t going to be mauled alive by the opposing pass rush. Jacksonville has a solid receiving duo in DJ Chark and Laviska Shenault, but it won’t matter much if Lawrence spends his career getting driven into the dirt. Alijah Vera-Tucker is probably the best interior lineman in this class, and he will go a long way towards improving the overall pass blocking while opening up rushing lanes for James Robinson and the running game.
