In the wake of the awful coronavirus pandemic, NFL teams and players alike have worked to find ways to continue their day-to-day operations safely. As a result, teams and their media departments have created cutting edge software and utilized incredible resources that allow their players to keep themselves in peak form as they prepare for the upcoming season. Unfortunately, not everyone seems to be taking the 2020 NFL off-season seriously. One of those players appears to be Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver.

According to Montgomery County police, Oliver was arrested late Saturday night after a driver had tipped them off about a Ford pickup truck that was not maintaining their lane. The police then rushed to the scene and pulled over the pickup, which was being operated by Oliver himself. Upon conducting the traffic stop, police found some startling evidence. Multiple sources have reported that an open beer was found inside the vehicle, with some even saying it was noticed between Oliver’s legs during the traffic stop.

After removing Oliver from the vehicle, police then found a pistol, which escalated the situation. The Houston native was then removed from the scene as police conducted a thorough search of the vehicle. In the end, the officers involved charged Oliver with a DWI and the unlawful carrying of a weapon. The Bills announced that they were notified of the situation, but declined to comment on the matter.

Oliver, drafted ninth overall in 2019 by the Bills, posted 43 tackles and five sacks during his rookie campaign. Oliver’s situation comes on the heels of recent off-the-field issues involving NFL players. Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar and New York Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker recently surrendered themselves to police in response to allegations they were involved in a robbery and assault in Florida. According to reports, both men will be released on bail soon. Washington Redskins wide receiver Cody Latimer also made negative headlines this week after his arrest in Colorado. Latimer is facing multiple charges, including assault of the second degree. Latimer had recently inked a one-year contract with the Redskins this off-season.
