Case Keenum Signs Deal With Cleveland Browns
Keenum is coming off a season that saw him splitting starts with rookie Dwayne Haskins. He started 2019 as the starter but was eventually benched in Week 4, returned in Week 6, and was then injured in Week 8. He returned in Week 16 after a Haskins injury. In nine games with eight starts, he passed for 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also added one rushing touchdown.
After playing college football with the Houston Cougars, Keenum went undrafted in 2012 and was signed by the Houston Texans. He spent his entire rookie season on the practice squad before getting his first start in 2013 due to poor play from Matt Schaub. In 2014, he ended up with the Los Angeles Rams (then in St. Louis), but was cut midseason without playing a snap and ended up with the Texans again at the end of the season. He then returned to the Rams for the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
Keenum signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2017 and filled in for an injured Sam Bradford. This was where he had his breakout season, as he passed for a career-high 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions. The Vikings went 13-3 that season, and he started the game that saw the Minneapolis Miracle happen against the New Orleans Saints. They got to the NFC Championship as a result, only to get drubbed by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Keenum then joined the Denver Broncos in 2018, where he started all 16 games for the first time in his career. However, he only passed for 18 touchdowns and 15 interceptions during that time. He was traded to the Redskins in 2019. So far in his career, he has 14,368 passing yards, 75 touchdowns, 47 interceptions, and six rushing touchdowns.
