Washington Redskins Place Franchise Tag on Brandon Scherff

Brandon Scherff was originally the fifth overall selection of the 2015 NFL Draft. Scherff immediately made an impact for the Washington Redskins in his rookie year, starting every game. Following this, Scherff then made the Pro Bowl for the first time in his second NFL season. Scherff has continued on to start every game he has played in for the Redskins in his five-year career. Out of those five years, Scherff has been selected to the Pro Bowl in three of those years. His last Pro Bowl came this past season, where he allowed only one sack in 643 offensive snaps.

Brandon Scherff did miss some time in his 2018 season due to a torn pectoral muscle. He ended up missing the last eight games of the season and eventually landed on the season-ending injured reserve. Scherff also missed five games in his last season because of an injury. Missing 13 games over the previous two seasons is definitely a negative trend worth noting. However, Scherff doesn’t have much of an injury history in the NFL, aside from this.

Brandon Scherff originally played at Iowa College. In his first season of eligibility Scherff played guard before being converted to left tackle for his sophomore, junior and senior season. Scherff was also a recipient of the Outland Trophy in 2014, which is awarded to the best lineman in college.

Scherff plays the game with great physicality. In run blocking, he consistently moves opposing defenders off the line of scrimmage. In pass blocking, Scherff showcases a fantastic ability to anchor and stop power rush moves. Scherff’s excellent skill set has got him to be considered as a top tier guard in the league by most.
