Six Cleveland Browns Coach Possibilities

Mike LaFleur, Urban Meyer, Josh McDaniels, etc--there are many Cleveland Browns coach possibilities that could steer the team in the right direction.
Cleveland Brown Coach

The Cleveland Browns great search for a new head coach has started once again. Freddie Kitchens’ tenure lasted a season, and his personality wasn’t quite enough to be worthy of the position. Here are six possible coaches for the Cleveland Browns.

Six Cleveland Browns Coach Possible Hires

Fans and others alike felt a fire from the man before the season started, despite the few doubts he had in himself. He was right to be doubtful of his own abilities. He knew he had to make changes, and he did in the 2018 season. But Kitchens was simply overwhelmed by the job and expectations this year. It’s time for the Browns to begin the search. Here’s a list of six potential candidates, and remember, this doesn’t factor in any rumors currently circulating about interviews with other teams.

Mike McCarthy

Cleveland needs a Super Bowl winning coach. Mike McCarthy won Super Bowl XLV with the Green Bay Packers and was let go in 2018 after spending 13 years with the franchise. An interview with the Browns is scheduled, and it is hoped that he has updated his slightly backward coaching style over the last year. There are already ties to McCarthy with John Dorsey, assistant general manager Eliot Wolf, and executive vice president Alonzo Highsmith all having spent time in Green Bay with him. Furthermore, assistant coaches James Campen and Jeff Blasko, were also members of McCarthy’s staff in Green Bay.

Urban Meyer

After leaving the Ohio State Buckeyes last season, Urban Meyer‘s name has been waved around the NFL for some months. Rumors have circulated about his interest in the Browns, with some saying he is just the man to guide Baker Mayfield to his full star potential. He won a National Championship at Ohio State and the temptation to become a legendary NFL coach will be prevalent. Meyer is a smart man and will hire the right people to help him make the transition from college to pro. He made stellar choices in staff, who turned the Buckeyes into an elite offensive team. He will likely do the same in Cleveland.

Josh McDaniels

There’s a reason why Josh McDaniels‘ name pops up every time a team requires a new head coach. He has proven himself an offensive genius, though 2019 with the New England Patriots wasn’t his best season. Should he decide to move on, Cleveland would be the ideal home for him. He has the capabilities to turn the team around, transform the offense and polish Mayfield until he shines the way everyone thought he would this year.

Jim Harbaugh

He led Michigan to a 47-17 record but, Jim Harbaugh has struggled recently. The former 49ers coach could be looking at a NFL return. It’s been six years since he coached in the league. But we have to remember he went 44-19-1 and won four division titles in four years, advancing to Super Bowl XLVII.  Perhaps Harbaugh is hoping for a few more glory days, and Cleveland could be where he earns them.

Mike LaFleur

Mike LaFleur has spent the last three seasons as run-game coordinator with the 49ers. He’s worked in Cleveland before as an offensive coaching intern. At 32, he will be the youngest head coach in the league if he’s snatched up by the Browns or any team. Cleveland’s offense needs a serious overhaul and LaFleur could be the man to help them.

Robert Saleh

Oddly enough, Robert Saleh has been mentioned by various analysts as an ideal head coach for the Browns. He’s renowned for his toughness and discipline, which the Browns were blatantly lacking, and he transformed the 49ers defense into one of the leagues most elite. However, will the Browns really want another first-year head coach? We’ll see.
