Tom Brady Still Wants to Play Until Age 45

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady recently made an appearance on Westwood One Sports. During his time on the program, the host asked about various retirement rumors swirling around the six-time Super Bowl champion. Brady responded by saying that he still wants to play until he’s 45. Brady went on to say that he “[doesn’t] know why” his retirement rumors are spreading and that he still enjoys playing the game of football.

Tom Brady Not Planning on Retiring Any Time Soon

Tom Brady is completely in uncharted territory when it comes to sustaining peak performance at an advanced age. While he’s not having his best season by any stretch of the imagination, he’s still playing like a top-10 quarterback in his age-42 season. Through eight weeks of action, Brady ranks 10th in Football Outsiders’ DYAR and DVOA metrics and eighth in ESPN’s QBR metric. Even though he’s faced an easy schedule, Brady has spent the majority of the season behind a below-average offensive line throwing to a constantly-rotating supporting cast.

Even though Brady can still play at a high level, some in the media have been pushing reports that Brady could hang it up at the end of the season. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is one of the loudest voices pushing the report that Brady could retire. Schefter has cited Brady putting his house on the market on multiple occasions while conveniently ignoring the fact that Brady reportedly bought a new house in Connecticut.

This isn’t the first time Brady’s battled back against retirement rumors, and it probably won’t be the last. Ever since Brady won Super Bowl 49, reporters and fans alike have always questioned when the end was going to come. We’re obviously closer to the end of Brady’s career than the beginning, but Brady’s answer still remains the same. As long as he continues to play at a high level, he’s going to try to play until 45.
