Isaiah Wynn Suffers Foot Injury, Downgraded to OUT [UPDATED]

New England Patriots left tackle Isaiah Wynn suffered a foot injury early in Week 2’s contest against the Miami Dolphins. The second-year tackle suffered said injury midway through New England’s second drive of the game and, as of this posting, has not returned to the field.

Update: The New England Patriots have ruled Isaiah Wynn OUT for the rest of the game

New England Patriots Left Tackle Isaiah Wynn Ruled OUT With Foot Injury

This isn’t Wynn’s first battle with injury in his short career. The Patriots selected Wynn in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, but the Georgia product missed the entirety of his rookie season with an Achilles injury. Wynn started training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list but played 100% of the snaps in Week 1 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team did not reveal which foot was injured.

New England’s offensive line is already decimated by injuries. In the weeks leading up to the season, starting center David Andrews suffered blood clots in his lungs. This ailment forced the team to put him on the injured reserve and insert former sixth-round pick Ted Karras into the starting lineup. Last week, the Patriots lost starting right tackle Marcus Cannon to a shoulder injury. While the injury looked gruesome in real-time, Cannon isn’t expected to miss significant time and could play as early as Week 3.

In Wynn’s absence, the Patriots used a rotation of Korey Cunningham and the recently-signed Marshall NewhouseNew England traded for Cunningham in the weeks leading up to the season while the Patriots added Newhouse following Marcus Cannon’s injury.

Additionally, the Patriots could also shift left guard Joe Thuney over to tackle. Thuney played tackle in the waning moments of Week 1’s victory and also played the position throughout training camp and in college. It’s worth noting that Thuney appeared to get up slow early in New England’s first drive, but stayed in the game.
