The Houston Texans running back situation suddenly became muddled as it's feared that Lamar Miller tore his ACL against the Dallas Cowboys.

It is not a good night to be a Houston Texans or an Indianapolis Colts fan. In the wake of Texans fans awaiting the dreadful confirmation that Lamar Miller likely tore his ACL, Colts’ quarterback Andrew Luck called it quits. Unfortunately for Miller, the Texans fear the veteran back tore his ACL.

Lamar Miller Likely Out For Season With ACL Tear

In the first quarter of Houston’s preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, Miller went down with a left knee injury. Moments later, he was carted off. As per usual when a player goes down with a leg injury, fans can’t help but wonder about that ACL ligament. Unfortunately for Texans fans, the ACL strikes again. Houston is now tasked with finding a back that can take over for Miller unless they plan to use Duke Johnson as their feature back this season.

Behind Johnson, Houston’s running back group is less than ideal. The Texans currently employ Buddy Howell, Damarea CrockettJosh FergusonCullen GillaspiaTaiwan Jones and Karan Higdon after Duke Johnson. Houston can either choose to use their current group of runners or scrounge the trade market for a Miller replacement for 2019.

Teams Houston could contact in terms of finding a replacement include the Philadelphia Eagles for a player like Corey Clement, or the Kansas City Chiefs and inquire about Carlos Hyde‘s availability. Perhaps the Texans could make a call to the New England Patriots for somebody like Rex Burkhead or the Seattle Seahawks to check in on cut candidate C.J. Prosise.

Last season, Miller rushed for 973 yards and five touchdowns on 210 carries for the Texans. He was heading into the final year of his four-year, $26 million deal he signed with Houston back in 2015. Throughout his career, which began with the Miami Dolphins in 2012, he has rushed for 5,864 yards and 32 touchdowns on 1,354 carries in 105 career games.
