C.J. Anderson Signs One-Year Deal With Detroit Lions

C.J. Anderson is coming off a season that he spent with three teams, doing most of his work with the Rams by getting 299 yards in two regular season games.

Running back C.J. Anderson has signed a one year contract with the Detroit Lions. The exact financial value of the deal is unknown but it gives Anderson the chance to hit free agency again in 2020. Anderson started out the 2018 season with the Carolina Panthers but finished it with the Los Angeles Rams.

C.J. Anderson, Detroit Lions Agree to One-Year Deal

Anderson had a pretty interesting 2018 season; he spent time with three teams during the year. At first, it seemed like he was going to be an afterthought, but he became a big role player when he joined the Rams and got some carries with them due to a Todd Gurley injury. After the few good games he had down the stretch, he’s looking to spend the next season getting more carries than he did early in the season.

Anderson started out the 2018 season with the Panthers, but despite having been a 1,000-yard rusher just the year before, he only had 104 yards and no touchdowns in nine games. He was cut in mid-November and signed by the Oakland Raiders in early December, only to be cut a week later without seeing any game action. He then signed with the Rams, where he put up 299 yards and two touchdowns in two regular season games, plus 189 yards and two more touchdowns in the playoffs.

Anderson played football in high school at Jesse M. Bethel High School located in Vallejo, California. He went on to play football at Laney College (a community college) in the same state. He then played with the University of California for his junior and senior year.

Anderson went undrafted in 2013 and was signed by the Denver Broncos. He broke out in 2014, putting up over 1,100 all-purpose yards and earning his only Pro Bowl berth thus far. He remained with the Broncos until 2017, when he had his first 1,000-yard season before starting his carousel 2018 season noted earlier. In his career, he has 3,454 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns, plus 900 (exactly) receiving yards and five touchdowns.
