Donte Moncrief Signs With the Pittsburgh Steelers

Donte Moncrief had the second-highest yardage output of his career in 2018, his first season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Wide receiver Donte Moncrief signed a 2-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers. His new contract keeps him with the team through 2020. Moncrief spent the 2018 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Before last season, Moncrief spent the first three seasons of his NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts.

Though Moncrief is hitting free agency for the second time in his career, he will only be 26 at the start of the 2019 season. 2018 wasn’t a great season for him, but he showed flashes of play-making ability. He finished the 2018 season with 48 receptions for 668 yards along with three touchdowns. Week Four was easily Moncrief’s best performance of the season. He had five receptions on five targets for 109 yards and a touchdown. In that game, Moncrief caught a pass on the right side of the field and eluded the New York Jets defenders on the way to a 67-yard touchdown.

Moncrief spent the first three seasons of his career in Indianapolis. Moncrief’s time in Indy was up and down thanks to injury. 2015 was the wideout’s best season statistically as he had 64 receptions for 733 yards and six touchdowns. He started in 10 games that season which is the second most in his career besides 2018 (14 games started). The 2016 and 2017 seasons were rough for Moncrief. He dealt with multiple injuries and missed 11 games in that span. 2017 was a career low for him as he managed 26 catches with 391 yards and touchdowns in 12 games.

Moncrief is a native of Mississippi and played both high school track and football. He went on to play college football in his home state at the University of Mississippi. After playing Ole Miss for three years from 2011 to 2013, Moncrief decided to enter the 2014 NFL Draft. He was selected in the third round by the Colts with the 90th overall pick.
