Tyrell Williams to Sign With the Oakland Raiders

Williams appeared in all 16 regular season games for the Chargers in 2018, while only starting in 10 of those outings. However, when he was on the field he played to his projected role; a downfield threat. Catching 41 passes for 653 yards (a 15.9 YPC average) and five touchdowns, Williams continued to play the role of a boom-or-bust candidate for the Chargers offense. Williams had back-to-back outings of 100+ yards in 2018 but failed to surpass 50 yards more than once for the remainder of the regular season. This trend is common throughout Williams’ career, as he often has been regarded as a downfield threat with little more to offer.

However, Williams has only increased his value through his durability and speed on the field. Not having missed a game within the last three regular seasons, Williams has consistently provided the Chargers a downfield decoy due to his blazing speed. While he may not fill up the stat sheet with his receiving totals, he commands attention from opposing defenses, something that has benefitted the Chargers offense in the past.

With his new team, Williams is expected to take on a larger offensive role than his time with the Chargers. He has the size (6’4”, 205 pounds) paired with tremendous downfield speed to blossom into a solid contributor in any offense. After being signed by the Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2015, Williams has bet on himself and won. Williams looks to not only build on his strong physical traits but also become a true offensive contributor.
