Lamarcus Joyner Expected to Sign With Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders will sign safety Lamarcus Joyner to a four-year deal once free agency officially commences, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Lamarcus Joyner has agreed on a new four-year deal with the Oakland Raiders. As of this posting, the exact money and guarantees are not yet available to the public. Joyner spent the previous five seasons with the Los Angeles Rams.

Lamarcus Joyner, Oakland Raiders Agree to Four-Year Deal

The free safety started 15 games in 2018, recording 58 solo tackles (78 total), with one interception, one recovered fumble, and one sack in fifteen starts in as many games. Joyner set career-highs in tackles and games played helping the Rams make it to Super Bowl LIII, but his turnover numbers were down. In 2017 he had 39 solo tackles (49 total), but added three interceptions and a forced fumble.

In five seasons with the Rams – both in L.A. and St. Louis – Joyner has 236 solo tackles (305 total), 25 pass deflections, five sacks, four interceptions, two forced fumbles, two recoveries, and a touchdown. He came into the league as a corner, playing nickel and backup safety for the Rams his first few seasons. Joyner won the starting free safety job in 2017 with Wade Phillips running the show on defense for the Rams. Listed at 5’8″ and 191 pounds, Joyner has played in 67 out of a possible 80 games, with 42 starts.

Joyner was selected in the second round – 41st overall – of the 2014 NFL Draft out of Florida State University. In college, he won the BCS National Championship and was consensus All-American in 2013, won back-to-back ACC titles and was named First-Team All-ACC twice and Second-Team once. Joyner attended football factory St. Thomas Aquinas in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where he was a high school All-American and named National Defensive Player of the Year by USA Today. Before that Joyner attended Southwest Miami High School where he spent three seasons as a varsity defensive back, linebacker, receiver, and kick returner. He’ll now lead the — secondary for the next — years.
