31-year old quarterback Case Keenum is about to join his fourth team in as many years. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Denver Broncos are sending their starting quarterback and a seventh-round pick to the Washington Redskins in exchange for a sixth-round pick. Keenum spent the 2018 season with the Denver Broncos but has also started for the Minnesota Vikings, Los Angeles Rams, and Houston Texans.

Denver Broncos Trade Case Keenum to Washington Redskins

Following a career season in 2017, Broncos general manager John Elway signed Keenum to a two-year deal to serve as the teams starting quarterback. During his lone season at the helm, Keenum started all 16 games while completing 62.3% of his passes for 3,890 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. Elway wasn’t impressed with Keenum’s performance, as the Hall of Fame quarterback unofficially traded for Joe Flacco a few weeks back.

According to Rapoport, Keenum will battle incumbent quarterback Colt McCoy for the starting job. McCoy started three games in 2018 in place of an injured Alex Smith, completing 63% of his passes for 372 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. McCoy’s season ended prematurely after breaking his leg against the Philadelphia Eagles. Smith, of course, is expected to miss the entire 2019 season after suffering a gruesome leg injury midway through the 2018 season.

Keenum initially entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent back in 2012. Spending time bouncing around the Texans’ active roster, Keenum finally earned starting time midway through the 2013 season. Starting eight games for Houston, Keenum completed 54.2% of his passes for 1,760 yards, nine touchdowns, and six interceptions.

Keenum’s best season came with the Minnesota Vikings in 2017. Filling in for an injured Sam Bradford, Keenum recorded a career-best 67.2% completion percentage, 3,547 yards, 22 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Minnesota made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game, in large part due to Keenum’s play under center.
