The Jacksonville Jaguars Monday from hell continues. The NFL has released a statement saying that Leonard Fournette will be suspended one game for his fight against Shaq Lawson on Sunday. Fournette was not even involved in the play but he decided to leave the bench and threw three punches at Lawson. It was a good call to suspend Fournette. Behavior like that is unacceptable and the league is right to not tolerate it.

In the NFL’s statement on Fournette’s suspension, Jon Runyan (NFL Vice President of Football Operations) discusses the rules that were broken as well as pointing out that Fournette wasn’t in on the play and crossed the field to insert himself in the situation.

It is usually not good for players to make the news about something other than their play. In fact, Fournette was likely on his way to a career day against the Buffalo Bills. He had 18 carries for 95 yards and two touchdowns. Add to that 3 receptions for 13 yards and it’s a very good game. There was a lot of time left for Fournette to make an impact, but he made sure that didn’t happen. Not only did he hurt the Jags chances against the Bills, he also made things harder for them next week against the Indianapolis Colts.

Interestingly enough, the Jaguars November 11th matchup against the Colts was Fournette’s first game back after his hamstring injury. In that game, he had 24 carries for 53 yards and one touchdown rushing. Fournette was active in the passing game as well with five receptions for 56 yards and one touchdown. His yards per carry were low in that game but he had a lot of volume, which was helpful despite the loss. Now the team will look to Carlos Hyde and T.J. Yeldon to fill in and get the running game going. Leonard Fournette needs to raise his maturity to the level of his play.
