Deonte Thompson is back with the Buffalo Bills.

The team signed the 29-year-old wide receiver on Wednesday, one day after releasing Terrelle Pryor. Thompson signed with the Dallas Cowboys this off-season after playing with the Bills for most of last season.

Deonte Thompson Signs With Buffalo Bills

Thompson made eight appearances with the Cowboys this year, including four starts. But he never quite caught on as a regular target for quarterback Dak Prescott. He managed just 14 catches for 124 yards and no touchdowns, which prompted the team to release him on November 9.

Buffalo signed Thompson on October 17 of last year, six days after the Chicago Bears released him. He proceeded to put up the best numbers of his career, accumulating 430 receiving yards and finishing with the second-most yards per game on the team. His 15.9 yards per catch for the Bills ranked 11th among all NFL receivers who saw at least 50 targets.

The addition of Thompson is an attempt to provide a spark to a receiving corps that’s dealt with myriad struggles in 2018. Bills receivers are accounting for 184 yards per game which ranks dead last in the NFL. But there were signs of life during their 41-10 win over the New York Jets in Week 10. It included Robert Foster becoming the first Bills wideout to eclipse 100 receiving yards in a game this year.

Thompson played collegiately at Florida and went undrafted in 2012. He initially signed with the Baltimore Ravens and spent two full seasons there. His first stint with the Bills came late in the 2014 season with them waiving him with an injury settlement the following year. He joined the Bears practice squad shortly thereafter, eventually moving up to the active roster. A year later, he caught his first career touchdown pass from current Bills quarterback Matt Barkley.

The Bills are on bye this week but return to action in Week 12 when they welcome the Jacksonville Jaguars to Orchard Park. Kickoff from New Era Field commences at 1 p.m. ET with CBS providing television coverage.
