Phillip Lindsay, Matt Breida Highlight Week Three Running Back Claims

Running backs like Phillip Lindsay and Matt Brieda will have big roles in the 2018 NFL season, but are still mostly unclaimed in fantasy football.

The fantasy football landscape has drastically changed just after just two short weeks. Several players like Phillip Lindsay entered the season with limited expectations yet have already earned starting spots. With the running back position being arguably the most important in all of fantasy football, let’s take a look at the top running back waiver claims you should be making.

Phillip Lindsay

A Denver Broncos rookie running back has taken the league by storm, just not the one everyone expected. Undrafted rookie Phillip Lindsay is one of the biggest surprises of the 2018 season and is a must-own on your fantasy team. Through two weeks, Lindsay has recorded 178 rushing yards, 35 receiving yards, and one touchdown. He’s the first undrafted rookie to record 100 or more yards in each of his first two games.

Lindsay is still splitting carries with Royce Freeman, and Freeman is seeing the majority of the goal line carries. While this does limit Lindsay’s ceiling, that’s still no reason to shy away from the promising rookie. As long as he can produce like this, he’ll keep seeing more and more time in the offense.

Matt Breida

Once again, San Francisco 49ers running back Matt Breida makes this list. After performing adequately in a tough matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, Breida established himself as the lead back against the Detroit Lions. Breida finished his night with 138 rushing yards and a touchdown while adding another 21 yards in the passing game. Moving forward, he is the clear lead back over Alfred Morris.

Breida and the 49ers face off against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week Three. Kansas City has one of the worst defenses in all of football, so Bredia should be able to collect a lot of yardage. Even if that game turns into a shootout, Breida should still see a good amount of snaps. He’s the best receiving back the 49ers have, so he’ll remain on the field regardless of the score.

Giovani Bernard

With Joe Mixon sidelined, Cincinnati Bengals running back Giovani Bernard is set to take over as the teams starting running back. Bernard has shown the ability to be a strong starter in the league. We already profiled Bernard’s role in the Bengals offense forward, so we won’t waste words doing so here. If you play in a league where Bernard is unclaimed, make sure you pick him up for this week.
