Why Mitch Trubisky is Severely Undervalued

Despite a poor rookie season, Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky is poised to have a great fantasy football season in 2018.

In 2018, Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky suffered from the same disease that clamped down on Rams quarterback Jared Goff’s rookie season: An unimaginative head coach that should have stopped running offenses a decade ago. It was Jeff Fisher for Goff and John Fox for Trubisky.

Goff was labeled as a bust heading into his sophomore season. Now, he’s a borderline top-10 fantasy quarterback. Trubisky is in a similar spot after the Bears put together an off-season that will help him tremendously in 2018.

Chicago Bears Quarterback Mitch Trubisky is Severely Undervalued

This offseason, the Bears hired former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy to be Chicago’s head coach. The former coordinator did wonders with Alex Smith and Kansas City’s offense last season. He should be able to do the same with the former second overall pick and the Bears new weapons.

One aspect of Kansas City’s offense in 2017 was run-pass options, something Trubisky ran effectively in college. Nagy increasing the number of plays using RPO’s should only help the quarterback progress. Nagy will also let Trubisky show off his arm strength, something that led to him becoming the second overall pick in 2017.

New Passing Weapons

That arm strength will come in handy when Trubisky takes the field with his new offensive weapons. Chicago signed former Jaguars receiver Allen Robinson before selecting Anthony Miller in the second round of the draft. These two receivers are significant upgrades over what Trubisky had around him in 2017.

Robinson is just a few seasons removed from recording 1400 yards and 14 touchdowns with Blake Bortles as his quarterback. Even though he is coming off a torn-ACL, which he suffered in week one of last season, Robinson is a significant upgrade over any of the receivers on Chicago’s roster from last season.

The 51 pick in the draft a few months, Anthony Miller is an interesting prospect and should fit right into the Bears offense. He isn’t the fastest guy on the field but he makes up for it by running crisp routes and creating yards after the catch.

These two receivers are massive upgrades over the likes of Kendall Wright and Josh Bellamy, both of who produced very little and weren’t nearly enough help for a rookie quarterback.

An Efficient Running Game

Lastly, an improved passing attack this upcoming season will help running back Jordan Howard. Though Trubisky obviously doesn’t receive points for Howard’s work on the ground, Howard’s efficiency will keep defenses honest.

An important coaching change, an addition of playmakers at receiver and ability to use his full range of talent will only make Trubisky a more polished and complete quarterback in 2018, which will directly translate to points for your fantasy team.

Per ESPN, Trubisky is currently the 22 signal-caller off the board and his current average draft position is 128. That means he is valued behind the likes of Eli Manning, Tyrod Taylor, and Philip Rivers. In an explosive offense this upcoming season, Trubisky should have no problem outperforming those aging veterans.
