Tom Savage is on his way to the Big Easy.

After four seasons with the Houston Texans, Savage will embark on the next chapter of his career with the New Orleans Saints. His agents Schwartz and Feinsod initially announced news of the signing.

Quarterback Tom Savage to Sign With New Orleans Saints

Savage, 26, was drafted in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Texans out of Pittsburgh. Savage originally enrolled at Rutgers in 2009 and had a productive freshman year. However, in 2010, Savage missed time due to a hand injury and subsequently lost his starting job to freshman quarterback Chas Dodd. As a result, Savage transferred to Arizona in 2011. But after sitting out a year due to NCAA rules, the young college quarterback would transfer yet again, this time to Pitt where he would finish his college career.

Savage wouldn’t see much playing time in his rookie season with the Texans. The young quarterback would only play in two games during the 2014 season, going 10-for-19 (52.6%) for 127 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. Savage would go on to miss the entire 2015 season with a shoulder injury.

In 2016, the Texans signed quarterback Brock Osweiler after he helped the Denver Broncos reach the Super Bowl. Osweiler played in eight games for the Broncos in 2015, starting seven games. He completed 61.8 percent of his passes for 1,967 yards with 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. Osweiler filled in for an injured Peyton Manning, and even held onto the job after the future Hall of Famer was healthy enough to play. But in week 17, with the season on the line, Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak went back to Manning despite Osweiler starting. Manning would guide Denver to a victory in Super Bowl 50.

There were high expectations placed on the Texans new quarterback, which quickly evaporated after the season began. By week 16, head coach Bill O’Brien had seen enough from Osweiler after throwing back-to-back picks and replaced him with Savage in the second half. Savage would lead a comeback in week 16, which was enough for O’Brien to name Savage the starter for the rest of the season. Savage would throw for 461 yards while completing 63 percent of his passes in 2016.

In 2017, Savage won the starting quarterback job in the preseason over Deshaun Watson, but would ultimately be replaced by the rookie quarterback out of Clemson in week one. Savage would get the chance to start again after Watson suffered a season-ending knee injury in week nine. Savage would make seven starts in 2017, throwing for 1,412 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions.

For his career, Savage has thrown for 2,000 yards, while completing 57.5 percent of his passes, with five touchdowns and seven interceptions.
