In perhaps the most boring fashion, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated AFC West rival Los Angeles Chargers. The game consisted of interceptions, slow offensive progression, and yet another impressive performance for rookie Kareem Hunt. The Chiefs start their divisional play 1-0, making this game their twelfth win in a row within their division. With the win, the Chiefs provided key takeaways on their third straight victory.

Week Three Kansas City Chiefs Takeaways

1) Streaky Secondary Overpowers Philip Rivers

Though a sunny forecast stood out on a Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles, it rained over the field of Stubhub Center – interceptions, that is. Quarterback Philip Rivers handed the Chiefs three total interceptions in the first half, and nearly one more in the second half. Cornerback Terrance Mitchell hauled in two of the three, while teammate Marcus Peters took part in the other.

With the three interceptions, the Chiefs were able to generate 10 points off of the gifted turnovers. At times, it seemed the secondary did not show up to the game, but at the same time, they were a real reason for the Chiefs to leave Los Angeles victorious.

The impressive duo of Mitchell and Peters continue to show that they are one of the more exciting young duos in the 32 NFL secondaries. The lack of defensive presence in Phillip Gaines is oft mitigated the solid contribution between Mitchell and Peters that makes quarterbacks uneasy to have a heavy pass game strategy.

2) The Kareem Hunt Show – A Fortunate Re-run

For the third week straight, rookie Kareem Hunt shines above all with his explosive play style. 17 rushing attempts by Hunt equaled 172 rushing yards, and one touchdown. His 69 yard touchdown was the dagger, to etch the win in stone for the Chiefs.

On the year, every single game, Hunt has produced 50 plus yards, and one or more touchdowns. As a rookie, these stats are eye-opening. Thank you John Dorsey for bringing Hunt to Kansas City; he is a special talent that the franchise cannot let go.

A third round steal may be the most exciting player in the NFL right now, and he deserves every compliment he receives, because it is simple – Kareem is indeed living the dream. If he continues his top-notch play, Hunt will be a superstar, and a keeper in Kansas City.

3) Chiefs Own Offensive Weapons Everywhere

When tight end superstar Travis Kelce hauls in one reception for one total yard, and the team still wins by two touchdowns, it is obvious the team does not lack talent. Albert Wilson scored a touchdown, Tyreek Hill scored a touchdown, and De’Anthony Thomas thoroughly produced for the team.

Owning offensive weapons everywhere on the field makes it a challenge to be shut down. This offense does not rely on one player to produce, and this is a situation many teams would love to be in.

Thankfully for the Chiefs balanced offense, no matter who produces, it will be positive. For opposing defenses, it has to be a constant headache trying to decide how to stop the Chiefs offense.

Your Kansas City Chiefs are 3-0, and with the offensive firepower they possess – Chiefs Kingdom sends a simple “good luck” to their future opponents this season.
