The Seattle Seahawks have traded cornerback Tramaine Brock to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a seventh round pick according to multiple sources, first by Shawn Zobel of Zobel Sports Consulting. Brock signed with the Seahawks on August 16th after facing a multiple month felony domestic violence investigation. The felony investigation began on April seventh after the San Francisco 49ers discovered the allegations and subsequently cut him. The Santa Clara County District Attorney dismissed the charges, leaving Brock open to the free agency market where the Seahawks acquired him for depth.

After acquiring Brock on a one-year deal, the Seahawks began to work him in as a rotational nickel corner in the same spot as counterpart Jeremy Lane. However, Brock failed to stand out in several preseason games. Before the roster cut downs ensued, head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider are looking elsewhere for talent. Instead of cutting Brock, they opted to obtain a seventh-round pick.

Brock will be sent to the Vikings, a team with a stellar starting secondary, but lacking for depth. Xavier Rhodes will welcome his new counterpart as Brock’s role for the Vikings will be akin to the physical, nickel role he filled for the 49ers.

For the 49ers, Brock landed four interceptions and 93 tackles over the 2015 and 2016 seasons. While the Seahawks will commit to Lane as their corner to complement Richard Sherman, the Vikings will welcome the efficiency and high upside play of Brock. According to Pro Football Focus, Brock was the 16th best corner in the 2016 season.

It ought to be noted that the Seahawks may not be done trading. They finished a trade earlier in the day acquiring Sheldon Richardson from the New York Jets in echange for wide receiver Jermaine Kearse.

Of another note, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo has been reporting since August 16th that the NFL is still investigating the domestic violence allegation into Brock.
