Keenan Allen Free Agency: 5 Top Landing Spots Emerge for Veteran

In the latest Keenan Allen free agency rumors, the wide receiver could be prepared to expand his options as NFL Training Camp is just around the corner. According to a source, the veteran is expected to weigh his options this month while keeping all avenues open for an opportunity as a pass-catcher. Allen, a former third-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, spent the majority of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers. He spent one lone season with the Chicago Bears, attempting to establish a connection with QB Caleb Williams, but it ultimately didn’t move the needle.

Allen returned to the Chargers for one more season and remains a potential candidate to re-sign with them. At this stage in his career, the WR is on the verge of retirement. The pass-catcher is no longer looking for a long-term deal similar to fellow free agents DeAndre Hopkins and Stefon Diggs. However, just like them, they’re seeking to join a contender where they can win a Super Bowl before officially hanging their cleats.

While the Washington Commanders have been linked to the former Chargers veteran, the wideout has struggled to generate any interest. With just days away from training camp, here are five teams that could roll the dice on the receiver.

Potential Destinations

Kansas City Chiefs

Other than Xavier Worthy, the Kansas City Chiefs have one of the most questionable wide receiving units. QB Patrick Mahomes is coming off a season-ending injury in 2025, and the team has yet to address their pass-attack woes. Rashee Rice is back, but the team is wary of extending him, and hasn’t been able to stay consistent or out of trouble with the law. Tyquan Thornton is decent as a slant route contributor, but nothing too spectacular.

This leaves Jalen Royals, Nikko Remigio and Cyrus Allen. TE Travis Kelce isn’t the same he used to be, and is on the brink of retiring after the 2026 season. Allen won’t be the long-term solution, but could streamline this WR group.

Dallas Cowboys

Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys franchised tagged George Pickens to pair with CeeDee Lamb as the top contributor at least one more season. While Ryan Flournoy is set to break out, Dallas signed Marquez Valdes-Scantling for depth. There’s no guarantee that Scantling can do much anymore in his career. Allen would fare better as a backup option to help Dak Prescott catch the footballs in the air.

New Orleans Saints

WR Chris Olave is entering his contract year, but the New Orleans Saints may wait to see if he’s worth the extension. The team selected Jordyn Tyson, a promising prospect, who could emerge as their newest WR1. Behind them, the WR depth is one of the weakest. DeVaughn Vele is solid, but there’s not much there after that. Allen won’t turn QB Tyler Shough into gold, but he can attempt to push this team to at least a wild-card.

Baltimore Ravens

Another chance to ring chase for Allen is joining Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. Entering the 2026 season, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Jesse Minter reunite with the former Chargers receiver. Zay Flowers is WR1 and close to an extension, but Rashod Bateman could lose his starting job to Ja’Kobi Lane or DeVontez Walker. This leaves an opening for an experienced pass-catcher, which the veteran can help on a one-year contract and push this team to a Super Bowl.

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions have one of the strongest pass-catching units in the NFC, led by Amon-Ra St. Brown, but they lack veteran experience. Jameson Williams and St. Brown are as old as they could get here. QB Jared Goff is entering a crucial part of his career that could use someone like Allen in the aerial attack during the postseason. He won’t be ahead of Isaac TeSlaa, but it’d allow more cushioning for this Lions offense.
