Predicting the Houston Texans 2017 Schedule: Part Two

The preseason is upon us! What better way can we welcome the preseason than with predicting the Houston Texans 2017 schedule?

Training camp is well underway for the Houston Texans and we’ve reached our first preseason game. Football is finally back and we’re just five weeks away from kicking off the regular season. What better way to welcome the preseason than with predicting the Houston Texans 2017 schedule?

Predicting the Houston Texans 2017 Schedule: Part Two

Week 9: Sunday, November 5th. 12:00pm vs Indianapolis Colts

The Colts will be heading into their second consecutive road game to face the division rival Texans. Indianapolis has historically been a tough opponent for the Texans. As a matter of fact, the last three meetings are the only win streak Houston has had in this 30 game series so far. Indianapolis owns a 23-7 record against Houston.

Andrew Luck will be healthy for the first time in two seasons and will be back to being a top five quarterback. The defense, however, just doesn’t matchup well for the Colts. Luck will have a 300 yard game but lose to the Texans, 23-21.

Week 10: Sunday, November 12th. 3:05pm at Los Angeles Rams

The Rams are coming off of what should be a physical battle against the Giants on the road. Their offense looks okay on paper, they have some weapons at receiver and a good running back in Todd Gurley but the jury is still out on quarterback Jared Goff. On the defensive side, the Rams have one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL Aaron Donald.

The Rams will have a new head coach this season which should help the team in the long run. They likely don’t see much of a change in his first year, though. This one, although a road game, should be a relatively easy win for the Texans, 28-17.

Week 11: Sunday, November 19th. 12:00pm vs Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals will be coming off of a physical match against their division rival the Seahawks at home. The Thursday night game does, however, essentially give the Cardinals extra time to prepare for Houston since there’s a 10 day gap between the games.

Arizona was widely considered a Super Bowl contender prior to last season and still have the same team, for the most part. Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald are nearing the end of their careers and the rest of the team want to thank them with a ring. This looks like a fairly even matchup for the Texans but the Cardinals will prove to be too much to handle for a young Houston team. Cardinals win, 27-21.

Week 12: Monday, November 27th. 7:30pm at Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens should be coming off of a tough matchup against the Green Bay Packers on the road. Baltimore addressed their defensive needs in the draft but still have questions at running back and receiver. They lost their starting tight end as well so they may struggle offensively this season.

This should be a defensive battle that will likely go in favor of the home team. Ravens win, 17-16.

Week 13: Sunday, December 3rd. 12:00pm at Tennessee Titans

Tennessee will be coming off of back-to-back road games against a physical Steelers team and the division rival Colts. With Houston winning the first game, the Titans will be seeking revenge. They have a top three offensive line and a young quarterback who continues to improve with time.

The Titans have the defense to matchup with Houston as well and remain the only real threat to take the AFC South crown. Home field advantage plays a huge part in this one as the fans get an exciting game from these two. In the end, the home team will walk away victorious. Titans win, 31-30.

Week 14: Sunday, December 10th. 12:00pm vs San Francisco 49ers

This will be the second consecutive road game for the 49ers. They have a brand new general manager and head coach in John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan, as well as plenty of new faces. The defense looks to be improved but the offense still remains a question, especially at quarterback.

If anyone can transform an offense it’s Shanahan. Don’t expect it to be done in the first year, however, or even the second year. The 49ers will continue to struggle this season and going on the road to face a tough Texans defense is going to be brutal. No contest here, folks. Texans win, 38-10.

Week 15: Sunday, December 17th. 12:00pm at Jacksonville Jaguars

This will be Jacksonville’s third consecutive game at home. They will, however, be coming off a tough Seattle game. They have the defense to match up with the Texans, but Blake Bortles just isn’t the right quarterback. Until Jacksonville can get a good quarterback to run that offense, they can’t be successful.

Leonard Fournette will have a good game late in the season. Expect him to get close to 100 yards in this game and even a pair of touchdowns. Houston will hold on to a lead on the road, however, and victory will be the Texans’, 24-21.

Week 16: Monday, December 25th. 3:30pm vs Pittsburgh Steelers

The Watt brothers showdown highlights this one. Pittsburgh will be coming off back-to-back games at home facing a tough New England team and division rival Baltimore Ravens. Both of those games will be physical matchups for the Steelers so the eight day break before traveling to Houston will be beneficial.

Expect J.J. Watt to line up as a tight end at least twice in this game and expect Pittsburgh to put T.J. Watt in coverage on his older brother on those plays. This should be a fun game for the fans but the Christmas gift of a win will go to the Steelers, 31-21.

Week 17: Sunday, December 31st. 12:00pm at Indianapolis Colts

After what should be a physical matchup against the Ravens, on the road, the Colts will look to finish their season at home against the division rival Texans. Playoff implications will likely be on the line here. While Indianapolis has likely already eliminated from playoff contention, this game could very well decide who takes the division between the Titans and Texans.

Houston is currently sitting at nine wins for the season and Tennessee will more than likely be sitting at nine wins as well. With the Titans facing the Jaguars to end their season, this is pretty much a must-win for Houston. Andrew Luck is going to have another big game of at least 300 yards but the defense just won’t be able to stop Lamar Miller. Miller will rush for 120 yards and a pair of touchdowns and earn a win for the Texans, 28-24.

That makes a 10-6 season for the Texans and likely another AFC South division championship.
