Eric Decker Signs With Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans made another big addition to their offense, signing veteran receiver Eric Decker to a one-year deal.

The Tennessee Titans have completed their offensive makeover, as they have signed veteran receiver Eric Decker on a one-year deal.

The veteran receiver has chosen to join the Titans as they look to make the playoffs for the first time since 2008. While the 30-year-old receiver underwent hip and shoulder surgeries, he had been practicing with the Jets prior to being released as the team unsuccessfully tried to trade him.

His addition will add to an offense that is going to be one of the most exciting in the NFL in 2017. Marcus Mariota enters his third season and is coming off a year in which he threw 26 touchdown passes. While his weapons over the first two years of his career have been mediocre, he now has an impressive group consisting of one of the top pass catching tight ends in the league in Delaine Walker, a top five pick at receiver in Corey Davis, and now Decker. With DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry in the backfield, opposing defenses will have their hands full with the Titans offense this coming season.

Decker has had some solid seasons throughout his career. In his second season, while in a run-heavy offense led by Tim Tebow in Denver, he caught eight touchdowns. His next two seasons in Denver with Peyton Manning saw him catch more than 80 passes and rack up double digit touchdowns each season. He then joined the New York Jets, where he became the top option in a fairly sluggish offense. However, he caught 74 passes and fell just short of 1,000 yards while scoring five touchdowns. He got back over 1,000 yards in 2015 and back into double digit touchdowns with Ryan Fitzpatrick under center before injuries derailed his 2016 campaign.

If he is healthy, there is no doubt that he can provide a solid veteran presence among a fairly young group of receivers. He doesn’t have blazing speed, but he gives the Titans a good route runner with good hands who knows how to move the chains (he has accounted for 264 first downs in his career on 385 receptions).

As an added bonus, his wife, country star Jessie James, frequently works in Nashville, so now they can have a more permanent home for their family.
