Claiborne is an extremely talented player with huge upside. Unfortunately, we have only seen glimpses of his potential so far in his NFL career. The Cowboys’ cornerback came into the NFL with extremely high expectations, but time and time again injuries have come between Claiborne and his goals.

It seemed that fate would finally be on Calborne’s side in 2016. In the beginning of the season Claiborne seemed to be on the path to a breakout year. But injuries once again got in the way and he missed the majority of the season. Claiborne played relatively well in 2015, starting 11 games while missing five to injury. This was an improvement from 2014. In that year he had an opportunity to start early on, but was only able to play in four games.

In 2013, injuries and poor play pushed Claiborne into a reserve role behind Orlando Scandrick. 2012 was Claiborne’s rookie season and expectations were extremely high. Claiborne started the majority of the season. The adversity he faced in his rookie campaign took the form of growing pains. He faced many of the ups and downs that most rookies do when they play a significant role in their first NFL season.

The Cowboys traded up to acquire Claiborne with the sixth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. Claiborne was a two-year starter at LSU and was coming off of an incredible junior season when he entered the draft. The Cowboys were at the time attempting to completely refurbish their cornerback position. In addition to making an aggressive move to draft Claiborne they also signed veteran Brandon Carr in free agency.
