T.J. Lang Signs With the Detroit Lions

Lang played in 13 games last season, starting in every game he played in and missing three games due to a broken foot. Outside of that foot injury (and a hip injury which required surgery in the offseason), Lang has been nothing short of tremendous during his tenure with the Packers, playing in 119 of a possible 128 games during his career.

2016 marked a stellar campaign for Lang, who was selected to his first Pro Bowl while only suiting up for 13 games. While the Packers’ Super Bowl hopes were dashed in the postseason, Lang was a bright spot along the line, proving to be one of the top guards in all of football. Standing at 6’4” and 318 pounds, he is a significant body to move along the line and will be expected to use that size and strength to continue being an able and productive pass protector. In emergency situations, Lang can be counted on to plug and play at almost any position along the line – something he has proven throughout his career – playing on both sides of the offensive line at both tackle and guard previously.

In a free-agent market that is unusually bereft in offensive line talent, Lang is a bit of a standout at this juncture. Turning 30 at the start of the 2017 NFL season, it can be expected that Lang still has quite a few years of solid production ahead of him.

Lang was born in Michigan and played college football at Eastern Michigan University where he spent the first year as a defensive lineman. He started all 36 games over the next three years at offensive tackle. Hailing from the Midwest, Lang had previously indicated that he would prefer to stay with a team in the area.
