Atlanta Falcons Re-Sign Dashon Goldson

The Atlanta Falcons have re-signed safety Dashon Goldson. He played four games for the team in the beginning of the 2016 NFL season before being cut.

The Atlanta Falcons have re-signed safety Dashon Goldson to the 53-man roster, according to multiple reports. He played four games with Atlanta to start the season, but was cut in October.

The move comes after Atlanta placed safety Kemal Ishmael on injured reserve. In his four games with the Falcons in 2016, Goldson recorded just one tackle, but mainly played on the special teams.

Before joining the Falcons, Goldson played with the San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He spent the 2015 season with the Washington Redskins.

The majority of his success came during his time in the Bay Area. In six seasons with San Francisco, Goldson was selected to two Pro Bowls and was named to an All-Pro First Team. The 49ers selected him in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft out of Washington.

The Bucs picked him up prior to the 2013 season. Goldson wasn’t able to repeat his success in central Florida, so the Bucs let him go in 2015. He was signed by the Redskins during that offseason. He recorded 108 tackles and one interception in 15 games with Washington.

As for Atlanta, they currently sit at a 9-5 record. They also hold a one game lead over the Buccaneers in the NFC South. They’ll look to clinch the division and a playoff spot with a win over the Carolina Panthers on Saturday.

Goldson has 15 career interceptions in his nine seasons. Going up against a quarterback in Cam Newton who has thrown nine interceptions, he could be looking to take advantage of that.

Newton has struggled all season compared to his 2015 campaign. If Goldson watches enough film and studies how to stop Newton, or even shut down the Panthers receivers, he could possibly help the Falcons clinch the division and a playoff birth on Christmas Eve.
