Ben Roethlisberger Suffers Torn Meniscus, to Have Surgery Monday

Hours after suffering an embarrassing loss to the Miami Dolphins comes a report from Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette that Steelers Quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, has a torn meniscus in his left knee and will have surgery Monday morning.

When it rains, it pours for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Hours after suffering an embarrassing 30-15 loss to the Miami Dolphins comes a report from Ron Cook of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has a torn meniscus in his left knee and will have surgery Monday morning.

Ben Roethlisberger Suffers Torn Meniscus, to Have Surgery Monday

The injury occurred during the second half of Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins on what appeared to be a little-to-no contact play. Roethlisberger limped off the field and Landry Jones took over in the eventual loss in Miami.

After the game, Big Ben initially said that his left knee was bruised and that he would have an MRI to determine the extent of the injury. But if the report from Ron Cook is to be believed, the injury was much worse than Roethlisberger anticipated.

For now, there is no immediate timetable for Roethlisberger’s return. Per the report from Cook, the team believes it is possible that Roethlisberger could miss only next week’s game against the New England Patriots before heading to their bye week and returning on November 6 against the Baltimore Ravens.

The truth is that right now no one knows when and if Ben will return this year. Big Ben has had knee issues in recent years and with the wear and tear on his body accumulating in over a decade in the NFL, there is simply no way to be sure how long he will be out until the surgery is complete. There will certainly be more information in the coming days after Roethlisberger undergoes the procedure.

A bad day for Steelers fans just got worse and now Pittsburgh waits with baited breath to find out if this news puts their season in jeopardy.
