Kevan Miller Re-Signs with the Boston Bruins

Kevan Miller

The Boston Bruins and Kevan Miller have reached an agreement on a new contract worth up to two million with incentives over one season.

Kevan Miller to Stay in Beantown

The Boston Bruins are in need of defenders. They have to re-sign Zdeno Chara and fill the hole left behind by Torey Krug. While Chara may still return, that also is uncertain. Krug is much more unlikely. By re-signing Kevan Miller, Boston is taking a step in the right direction. They have had Miller on the roster for several years. After not being drafted, Miller made the roster with Boston for the 2013-14 season. He has since been a staple of the Boston blue line. While he has typically played on the bottom pair, he is a fan favourite amongst Bruins fans.

One concern surrounding Miller is his injury history. He suffered a knee injury during the 2018-19 season that has kept him out of the lineup since. He has suffered several setbacks to his recovery making his injury much more significant than it initially appeared to be. Miller does not stick out in his defensive or offensive game. His grit and determination are what have made him a fan favourite. He is unafraid to play the body and make big hits with 712 of them over 324 games. In Boston, physicality is what earns you a roster spot. Miller has shown he can excel in that area.

Moving Forward

While the Kevan Miller signing is some progress to fill the gaps on a defence core with several holes, the Bruins still have more work to do. There are far too many holes to fill. While Miller is a body they can put on the ice, he will likely be nothing more than a depth defenceman for them in the coming season. More signings are sure to come for the Boston Bruins.
