Adin Hill Signs Contract with Coyotes
Hill was the third-string goaltender for the Coyotes, behind Antti Raanta and Darcy Kuemper. He played 13 games this season and started in nine of them, facing just about 350 shots. He had a goals-against-average of 2.62 and a save percentage of .918, saving 315 shots. During his three-year career with Arizona, he’s played 30 games and had a career GAA of 2.81 with a save percentage of .907. Over the past few years, the 6′-6″ goaltender played most of his games with the Tucson Roadrunners of the AHL. This past season, Hill went 15-5 through 20 games, with a GAA of 2.4 and a save percentage of .918. Through five partial seasons in the AHL, Hill posted a 2.67 GAA and a .910 save percentage. Back in 2015, the Coyotes drafted the right-hander in the third round, 76th overall.
Looking to the Future
Hill has put up solid numbers in the AHL and could be a viable backup option. The Coyotes might be looking to trade one of their goalies to get a better piece. The one-way portion of his deal eludes to the fact that the Coyotes are likely going to use him as an NHL-only backup. Both Raanta and Kuemper are capable of handling the starting position, and it looks like the Coyotes organization have found their backup.
With Kuemper having a fantastic season and playoffs this year, the Coyotes will likely move Raanta and replace him with Hill. If the Coyotes move Raanta, it will free up cap space and allow the Coyotes to trade for another skater to bolster their team. If Hill can put up stellar numbers, he and Kuemper will be a tough duo to crack. Stay tuned here to hear the latest news on the NHL and the Coyotes.
