Goalie Tucker Tynan of the Niagara IceDogs is in stable condition after successful leg surgery. The 17-year-old goalie was injury when his leg was cut by a skate blade of a London Knights player during the second period of an Ontario Hockey League game on Thursday night.

Tucker Tynan Suffers Scary Injury
The Chicago native went down after the high-speed collision with a London player and lost a lot of blood. Trainers tended to Tynan for over 10 minutes to stop the bleeding. Tynan was taken to the Niagara Health System in St. Catharines. Video of the incident is available online and is very grusome.
Niagara tweeted about three hours later that the procedure was a success and Tynan was in stable condition. Both clubs decided to postpone the game for the consideration of the players, staff and the fan. The Ontario Hockey League will reschedule the game at a later date.
Tynan is in his first season with the IceDogs and has an 11-8-4 record with a 3.80 goals against average and .910 save percentage. He normally faces around 39 shots a game, but has been settling into his role as the top goalie of Niagara.
What It Means
It’s good to see that Tynan’s surgery was success considering the nature of the injury. The loss of blood was reminiscent of former Buffalo Sabres goalie Clint Malarchuk when he took a skate blade to the neck and nearly lost his life.
Kudos go out to both teams for stopping the game and letting the medical professionals handle the situation. It would be a lot for young men to pick up and play a hockey game after seeing such a severe injury.
