Vancouver Canucks Name Bo Horvat Captain

The Vancouver Canucks have announced their 14th captain in franchise history. That player is none other than Bo Horvat. This announcement comes the night of their home opener.

Bo Horvat Named Canucks Captain

There had been talks about it for a few weeks. The Canucks had lots of potential options. From young and talented names like Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser to more experienced guys like Alexander Edler and Chris Tanev. At the end of the day, they chose Bo Horvat.

Horvat is an excellent choice. He has a mix of everything in the previous players named. He’s young and will be no doubt around this team for a very long time to come. However, he has already played 5 full NHL seasons. Horvat is a great leader but he also is very skilled on the ice. Last year he set a career-high with 66 points in 82 games.

Going forward, he and Pettersson look to be the next dangerous centre duo in the league. Both of them are super skilled and should be cornerstones of this franchise for a long time.

This Season

This year, the Canucks want to make the playoffs. They gave up a lottery-protected first-rounder for J.T. Miller this summer which clearly shows they want to compete. They are in a pretty weak division so taking a run at a playoff spot is a possibility. They will look to Horvat’s leadership moving forward.

The team has a solid mix of older and younger players but they now have one solid voice in the room. The Canucks will look to Horvat to lead them as they have one of the brighter futures in the league. For the first time in almost half a decade, optimism reigns supreme in Vancouver. Now, it is time for Bo Horvat to take the team to the next step.
