What It Means
The Devils really wanted Hayton, but Mammoth general manager Doug Armstrong has secured one of the original Utah players. Hayton was injured last season, but has put up 20-goal seasons in the past.
Armstrong cannot trade Hayton until July 1, 2027, when he becomes a free agent anyways. The veteran general manager said that Hayton “ is a key piece of our team.” His skill on the face-off dot and defensive acumen made him desirable to teams.
However, Hayton is staying put at least for this season. He could be an in-demand player in the next free agency cycle.
