Radko Gudas Signs with Florida Panthers

Defenceman Radko Gudas signs a new contract with the Florida Panthers bringing a physical presence and veteran leadership to the organization’s blueline. The signing comes after Gudas spent the previous three seasons with the Anaheim Ducks, where he served as captain.

The deal is for six years, and carries an average annual value of $1.5 million. Gudas had been recently acquired by the Ducks for A.J. Greer, as both teams wanted to get negotiations under way before the start of free agency. Greer has since signed with the Ducks.

Gudas appeared in 56 games during the 2025-26 season, recording two goals and 11 assists for 13 points. While offensive production has never been the defining aspect of his game, he continued to provide reliable defensive minutes, penalty-killing value, and a physical edge. Even at 36 years old, Gudas remained one of the NHL’s most feared hitters and toughest competitors.

Career Background and Playing Profile

Originally selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the third round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Gudas has enjoyed a lengthy NHL career that has included stops with the Lightning, Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals, Florida Panthers, and Ducks.

Standing six feet tall and weighing more than 200 pounds, Gudas built his reputation through physical play, defensive reliability, and a willingness to battle in difficult areas of the ice. Throughout his career, he has consistently handled tough defensive assignments while helping establish a hard-to-play-against identity for his teams.

Although he does not drive offence, Gudas continues to provide value through shot blocking, net-front coverage, penalty killing, and leadership. His experience includes more than 800 NHL games and multiple playoff appearances, making him one of the most accomplished veteran defenders available on the open market.

What This Means for Florida Panthers

For Florida, this signing adds a proven veteran who can strengthen the defensive group both on and off the ice. Gudas brings leadership, toughness, and a willingness to play difficult minutes against opposing top players.

His presence should also benefit younger defencemen throughout the organization. Gudas has earned praise throughout his career for his professionalism and mentorship, qualities that can help establish a stronger team culture.

While he may no longer be in the prime of his career, Gudas remains an effective depth defender capable of contributing on the penalty kill and in shutdown situations. As Florida looks to improve its defensive structure and add experience to the roster, signing Gudas provides a dependable veteran option for the blueline. They know what they are getting, as Gudas had previously laced them up in three years in South Florida from 2020 to 2023, before going to Anaheim.
