Bobby McMann Contract Details Setting the Tone

The Bobby McMann contract news announced today was set to create quite the buzz. However, it was likely outdone by the Brady Tkachuk trade earlier today. However, Bobby McMann was one of the more highly coveted unrestricted free agent forwards. Now, he will call the Seattle Kraken home for the next while. The deal for McMann is a six-year contract, with an average annual value of $5.75 million.

Today’s Bobby McMann Contract News was Overshadowed by Another Trade

McMann was only acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs this past season. He is a guy who had to battle to get to this point of his career, and now he has really cashed in. Furthermore, McMann had to go through the ECHL to make it, and was an undrafted product of the NCAA’s Colgate University.

As the Bobby McMann contract signing is done, there is one potential hang-up with McMann’s career projection, and one question yet to be solved. Can he be a 30-goal type guy on a strong team? Of course, McMann is banking on himself to be just that guy. And why wouldn’t he?

Four times in his professional hockey career he has been a 20-goal scorer. The first two seasons were in the AHL and now the past two seasons in the NHL. It certainly has arrived, and this contract supports that thinking.

Yes, he’s 30 years old, but he is also a bit fresher than others of his age. You can expect big numbers from him for the next three or four years, based on the eye test.

McMann is strong, fast, and adds some scoring punch. If he can find consistent power play and top six scoring, there’s no reason to think he can’t be a great asset for a playoff contender throughout the years of this deal.
