Toronto Maple Leafs Trade Middle-Six Forward to Seattle Kraken

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded forward Bobby McMann to the Seattle Kraken. In return, the Leafs acquire a second-round pick in 2027 and a fourth-round pick in 2026.

McMann, 29, has emerged as a productive depth scorer for the Maple Leafs this season. In 60 games in 2025-26, the 6’2″ forward recorded 19 goals and 13 assists for 32 points while averaging just over 15 minutes of ice time per night. McMann also recently appeared on The Athletic’s NHL trade board at number 16, highlighting him as a potential deadline target for teams looking to add affordable scoring depth

The undrafted winger has worked his way into Toronto’s middle six over the past two seasons. His game is built around speed, physical forechecking, and a willingness to drive the net. Those traits often translate well to Stanley Cup Playoff hockey.

Bobby McMann’s Value as a Deadline Addition

McMann’s combination of scoring touch and physical play makes him an appealing depth addition for contenders. He carries a $1.35 million salary cap hit and is in the final season of his contract. The forward is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent following the 2025 to 2026 season. Because of that manageable cap hit, acquiring teams can add McMann without major adjustments elsewhere on the roster, like Seattle had done. Depth forwards who can generate secondary offence and forecheck aggressively often become valuable pieces in post-season matchups.

Analytically, McMann has also produced strong offensive results. According to Hockey Stats, his finishing ranks in the 87th percentile among NHL forwards, highlighting his ability to convert chances around the crease.

What the Trade Means for the Kraken

For Seattle, McMann provides an immediate boost to forward depth. He projects as a middle-six winger capable of adding energy, forechecking pressure, and secondary scoring. Players with McMann’s profile frequently slot into third-line roles where they can pressure defenders and create chances through direct attacks toward the net. His ability to generate offence in tight areas also makes him useful in playoff environments where time and space become limited. Because of his affordable contract, Seattle can strengthen its lineup without creating significant salary cap complications.

What the Trade Means for Toronto

For Toronto, moving McMann represents an opportunity to convert a productive depth forward into future assets ahead of the trade deadline. The two picks are a nice example of that. While McMann has been a useful contributor, teams often capitalize on strong seasons from middle six players when demand increases around the league. Turning that value into draft picks or prospects helps maintain organizational depth and flexibility. The move may also provide the Maple Leafs with additional cap space as the organization evaluates potential roster moves elsewhere on the roster.
