Toronto Maple Leafs Forward Max Domi Out Indefinitely
According to the announcement from the Leafs, Domi was dealing with an issue that affected him in the 2025-26 season. The 31-year-old had an offseason procedure to address that ailment. However, Domi is having complications stemming from that surgery. Team officials also stated that Domi will continue to work with medical staff. They will also do a reevaluation of Domi at the start of training camp.
Domi has played for the Arizona Coyotes, Montreal Canadiens, Columbus Blue Jackets, Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Dallas Stars and Toronto over his 11-year NHL career. The son of former NHLer, Tie Domi, netted 12 goals and 24 assists for 36 points in 80 games this season. We saw the younger Domi average 14 minutes, 53 seconds of ice time in the recently completed season. He had a Corsi for of 48.8 and a relative Corsi of 5.5.
Domi has 150 goals and 336 assists for 486 points in 815 career games. Phoenix originally drafted Domi in the first round, 12th overall of the 2013 NHL Draft.

What It Means
Domi is in the middle of a four-year contract worth $15 million that he signed in July 2024. The Winnipeg native still managed to play 80 games despite having that undisclosed injury. There’s no questioning Domi’s toughness in fighting through that injury.
However, one wonders if he’ll be ready to go once training camp rolls around. The Maple Leafs are undergoing plenty of changes this offseason and still don’t have a new head coach as of press time. Whoever the new coach is will hopefully have Domi in the lineup once the season starts.
The veteran forward can chip in with some goals. However, he’s known for his toughness and willingness to get into the dirty areas if needed. Leafs fans are hoping one of their key middle six players can return for the 2026-27 campaign.
