Columbus Blue Jackets Claim Veteran Blueliner

Dante Fabbro claimed

The Columbus Blue Jackets continue to overhaul their roster as Dante Fabbro was claimed off waivers. Fabbro had been placed on waivers by the Nashville Predators on Saturday. News of the roster claim came on Sunday afternoon.

Dante Fabbro Claimed by Columbus

Fabbro has only played for the Predators in his seven-year NHL career. The 26-year-old had yet to register a point in six games this season. Fabbro’s playing time has diminished significantly during the 2024-25 season that saw him as a healthy scratch most game. He had a Corsi for 51.a and a relative Corsi of -5.5 in his small sample size this season.

The Coquitlam, British Columbia native has 16 goals and 56 assists for 72 points in 315 career games. Nashville originally drafted him in the first round, 17th overall of the 2016 NHL Draft.

Fabbro has represented Canada at the international level a number of times. He won a silver and a gold at the Under-20 level in 2017 and 2018, respectively. However, it wasn’t just at the junior level where he won. The veteran blueliner also took home silver at the senior level in the 2019 IIHF World Championships.

What It Means

Columbus continue to add to its roster and get up to the salary floor by picking up Fabbro. The Blue Jackets have been scrappy and played tough so far this season in the face of adversity. Taking on the $2.5 million salary for the rest of the season shouldn’t be an issue for Blue Jackets General Manager Don Waddell.

Getting that $2.5 million off the books allows the Predators to make some moves to bolster their roster. Nashville General Manager Barry Trotz was supposed to have a contending team. However, the Predators have struggled mightily this season.

It’s only $2.5 million of salary taken away, but the Predators now have a chance to tinker in season. There’s plenty of talent on the roster. However, Nashville better start stringing wins together soon.
