The Pittsburgh Penguins great has hit another very significant career milestone mark. Sidney Crosby has become just the 21st player all time to reach 600 career NHL goals achieving the feat tonight versus the Utah Hockey Club. It was a power play marker for the Pens, assisted by #65 Erik Karlsson trivia fans.
Penguins Great Sidney Crosby Scores 600 Career NHL Goals
Crosby has been playing well to start the 2024-25 campaign. This has culminated to him reaching the amazing milestone of 600 career NHL goals. As of late, Sid, like his team’s play, has been a bit inconsistent. Coming into tonight’s game, they only had two wins in the club’s past nine games. However, the team should be lifted with Sid achieving this milestone tonight. A note in their recent 6-2 loss to Columbus Blue Jackets, Sid tied Joe Sakic at 1016 for 13th on the all-time assist list. That was achieved, when he passed Sakic that is, on Rickard Rakell goal. Furthermore, Crosby now has points in six of his last seven games.
Looking Back at Crosby’s Career to this Point
If we look at Sidney Crosby stats, and we try to focus solely on goals, we see some remarkable figures. This is despite the fact that Crosby is more thought of as a playmaker. However, throughout course of his career, he has always been able to get it done in the goal column. Moreover, his career high in goals is 51. Amazingly as it may seem, he has only achieved 50 goals once throughout his NHL career thus far. But it’s his consistency with goalscoring that has made him one of the great all-time NHL goal getters.
Looking back through his seasons, if Sid plays a minimum of 53 games, he’s never been below 24 goals. In addition, there hasn’t been much in terms of signs of Sid slowing down. Just last year, Sid had his third-best career goal total with 42. This is something similar to one of his great career personal rivals, Alex Ovechkin. Ovechkin has had a great start to his 2024-25 campaign, that has him in line to break Wayne Gretzky‘s scoring record sooner than skeptics may have anticipated. With 15 goals through 18 games thus far, he is currently only 26 away from Gretzky’s record.
Some more notes on Sid’s goalscoring prowess, is that 12 times he has been a 30-goal scorer in the NHL. That type of consistency truly is an amazing accomplishment and a testament to Crosby’s durability throughout his career in the NHL.
What Else About the One Known Affectionately as Sid the Kid
Of course, the other side of Sidney Crosby achieving 600 goals, is the fact that Sid has always been about the team. He’s a three-time Stanley Cup champion and at this point of his career, he just wants another chance at playoff glory. That’s what it’s about now, not individual accolades, rather his team getting another chance in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Currently, the Pens have a 7-11-4 record and are not in the playoff mix in the NHL’s Metropolitan Division. Hopefully Crosby can spark the team with his offence to power this team into the playoffs as the season wears on.
There is some personal success that Crosby is interested in, however. That is making Team Canada and being captain, as Connor McDavid recently endorsed. Crosby and McDavid were among six Canadians already named to the squad in late June 2024. However, the rest of the team or the captain has yet to be named.
