Welcome to the latest edition of NHL Rumours! Hockey is in full swing and there have been some pleasant surprises. The Carolina Hurricanes are showing that they are legitimate, despite losing a lot of their core players. Also, the Boston Bruins sit in the basement of the Atlantic Division and the Nashville Predators are off to a slow start. Speaking of the Atlantic Division, one team to keep an eye on is the Buffalo Sabres.

Rumour: Elliote Friedman on 32 Thoughts discusses the Sabres being buyers

Before the season even began, there were three teams that were put on watch by the league. Everyone was wondering if the Sabres, Ottawa Senators, and Detroit Red Wings are going to take the next steps. The Senators are one game above .500 and the Sabres and Red Wings are near the basement. According to Friedman, the Sabres are looking to be buyers.

The Sabres Young Players Thriving

There is a lot to like about this young Sabres team. They have a plethora of young talent and head coach Lindy Ruff is a good fit for this young team. Tage Thompson looks like his old self, and is a point per game player for the Sabres. Alex Tuch is also bringing the offense, as he has generated the most expected goals of any skater on the team.

The most surprising is the fact that Dylan Cozens has just three points through the teams’ first nine games. He’s an extremely talented player, so getting him going is huge.

The Sabres have a mobile back end and they have not been shy to jumping into the play. For Kevyn Adams, buying into this team is the right move. But in what area? That remains to be seen.

Sabres Being Buyers

The latest NHL Rumours sees the Sabres being buyers. Very rarely do you see trades happen this early in the season, unless it is a fit for a need. Look at the Utah Hockey Club, as they went on to trade for defenceman Olli Maatta. Where the Sabres could upgrade remains a mystery.

They have gotten scoring, as they sit 11th in goals scored at five on five and 18th overall. After parting ways with Jeff Skinner, a boost on the wings could not hurt this team by any means. It’s a great way to get Cozens going and also having that extra layer of depth scoring.

The goaltending has been subpar. As a team they have the 24th best team save percentage, which isn’t ideal. But if that is what you’re going to work with, you need to outscore those problems. The biggest key, the Sabres have salary cap to work with. Adams has $6.29 million to work with, so that’s plenty to add.

The division is open right now, so keep an eye on the Sabres to add. This is a young team, but with an added boost could get over the hump. It is a fun group and with good talent worth investing in.
