The second day of the NHL trade has yielded another trade. On Saturday, the Los Angeles Kings and Tampa Bay Lightning completed the Tanner Jeannot trade. Tampa Bay gets the 118th selection in this year’s draft and a second-rounder in 2025. That 118th pick was used to select Jan Golicic of Gatineau of the QMJHL.

Lightning Make Tanner Jeannot Trade to Kings
Jeannot has played for the Nashville Predators and the Lightning over his four-year NHL career. This year was another slow season for him with only seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in 55 games this season. His Corsi for was 52.9 and he had a relative Corsi of 2.7.
The 27-year-old has 42 goals and 38 assists for 80 points in 55 career games. Most of those came in the 2021-22 campaign when he totaled 24 goals and 17 assists for 41 points. Some thought that would be his breakout campaign. However, he’s found a hard time scoring since he was traded to the Lightning.
Jeannot signed as an undrafted free agent with the Predators after the 2018 season. The Oxbow, Saskatchewan native played with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL and was a 40-goal and 80-point scorer with the club in the 2017-18 campaign.
What It Means
Tampa Bay and General Manager Julien BriseBois try to salvage something out a trade that was lopsided in Nashville’s favour. Jeannot hasn’t been the hit that he was in the Music City, so BriseBois decided to cut bait.
The move also frees up more money to try and sign team captain Steven Stamkos to another deal. Talks have been tough, but this deal and the one sending Mikhail Sergachev might give the team enough money to sign Stamkos.
Los Angeles gets a reclamation project that has put up a 20-goal season before. Jeannot also has a bit of an edge to his game and can mix it up if needed. We’ll see if Jim Hiller can revive Jeannot’s career in Southern California.
