Stanley Cup Winning-Forward Signs New Deal

Nick Cousins signed

We’ve got more signings to announce for this free agent frenzy. News emerged that forward Nick Cousins signed a new contract with the Ottawa Senators. This deal is for one year and is for $800k. Cousins joins for one year and will be a free agent for the 2025-26 season.

Nick Cousins Signed to New Contract

Cousins has played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Arizona Coyotes, Nashville Predators, Montreal Canadiens, Vegas Golden Knights and the Florida Panthers. He netted seven goals and eight assists for 15 points in 69 games this past season. The Belleville, Ontario native had a Corsi for of 55.5 and a relative Corsi of -0.5.

He has 71 goals and 109 assists for 180 points in 592 career games. Philadelphia originally drafted Cousins in the third round, 68th overall of the 2011 NHL Draft. His best goal-scoring season was when he netted 12 with the Coyotes in the 2017-18 campaign. The 31-year-old had a career-high 27 points in 2018-19 with Arizona and 2022-23 with Florida. He had one assist in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games this season.

Cousins did get the series-clinching goal in Game 5 of the 2023 Eastern Conference semifinal against the Toronto Maple Leafs. That booked Florida’s first trip to the Eastern Conference Final since 1996.

What It Means

Cousins doesn’t fill up the scoresheet, but he is an important part of a team. He’s willing to mix it up and try to get under the opposition’s skin. The veteran forward is a solid bottom-six forward and can help bother the other team.

He’s also made the playoff the last five seasons, so he’s been somewhat in demand by winning clubs. Cousins was in and out of the lineup during Florida’s run to its first championship. However, he may still provide some use to a team that needs a little bit of snarl in their lineup.
