Young Defenceman Comes to Terms With Lightning

J.J. Moser has a new contract. After a strong showing for the Arizona Coyotes, he has a new deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Moser is staying put for the next two years and will have an AAV of $3.375. He has been a stable pillar on the back end and earns his new pay. Moser comes over in the Mikhail Sergachev trade.

Moser Signs Contract With Lightning

He has been a stable presence on the formerly known Arizona Coyotes blueline. There have been numerous key departures on that blue line over the years and it’s been a transition since then. Moser is someone who has been progressively getting better with each passing season. Also, he is a player that comes with longevity, as he’s played nearly a full season the last two years.

During the 2022-23 season Moses emerged onto the scene. He had a career year, as he went on to score seven goals and 31 points. Also, he was used on the power play and had 11 points. Versatility is great and having him to lean on in multiple situations is huge. Moser showed that was no fluke season, as he finished with five goals and 26 points.

While he gets his offensive chances, he is primarily deployed in the neutral zone and defensive zone for zone starts. He is a physical player and uses his size to that advantage. Also, he led the Coyotes defenceman in takeaways. Moser is a good building block and a pillar on the back end. The Moser contract is great for both sides and is a great building block.

What This Means for the Lightning

The Moser contract is great for both sides. Moser has proved himself over the last few seasons and earned his pay raise. There are plenty of building blocks on this roster and Moser has become one of them. The transition on the blue line continues and Moser is part of it. The Lightning are getting younger, which is a great thing. He is a great young building block and should learn a lot from Victor Hedman.
