Former Colorado Avalanche Forward Jonathan Drouin has a new contract. After signing a one year deal with the Colorado Avalanche, he is now signing with back with the club. Drouin is locked in for the next year. After refunding his game with the Avalanche, he gets longer security.
Drouin inks Contract with Avalanche
The Drouin contract is great, especially after last years output. One of the best bargain signings of last summer was Drouin. It was a tough way to end his tenure with the Montreal Canadiens, but he went on to find new life with the Avalanche. Playing with high caliber players such as Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar can have a positive effect on a player.
Drouin went on to play 79 games, which was the most he had played since the 2018-19 season. In those games, he went on to score 19 goals and set a career high in points with 56. In fact, he finished fourth on the Avalanche this season in that regard which is huge. Drouin was finally healthy and found his offensive game again and it paid off.
He became that added layer of scoring that the Avalanche needed. Also, it was a magnificent addition for the Avalanche and it paid off. The low risk-high reward approach did work in this case. However, Drouin only played in three playoffs contests and had three assists. Despite the lack of production in the playoffs, Drouin was a great addition and worthy of this new deal.
What this Means
The Drouin contract is great to see. Drouin always had the talent and the raw tools to be an effective player. Health was not on his side and unfortunately hindered his ability to be on the ice. With a fresh start, he revived his career and was an effective player.
Drouin can be that extra layer of goal scoring and can be placed in offensive situations. For a guy that came close to 20 goals and almost reached 60 points, this is a huge deal for both sides.
