The perception of immortality only grows stronger as Pittsburgh Penguins centre Sidney Crosby records 1000 career assists. This is on the same goal that sees him move into 10th on the all-time career point list passing Phil Esposito who had 1590. Crosby assisted on the overtime winner by Erik Karlsson tonight against the Detroit Red Wings. With the overtime win tonight, the Pens move into the second Eastern Conference Wild Card spot, one point ahead of Detroit and the Washington Capitals. Interestingly enough, Sid is chasing the same man in career assists and points now. Joe Sakic had 1641 career points with 1,016 assists. Sakic is 13th all-time on the most career assists list. Furthermore, if Crosby has another big season in 2024-25, he could quickly move up the assists list. Steve Yzerman currently holds down the ninth spot with 1,063.
Sidney Crosby 1000 Assists and 10th All-Time on Points List
As Sidney Crosby records his 1000th career assist, he continues to get it done and perform at a high-level. There are many speculators who could see Crosby get some Hart Memorial Trophy nods if he can lead his Penguins to the post-season. Moreover, on the campaign, Crosby currently has 41 goals and 48 assists for 89 points. For a man that turns 37 in the Summer, he has some truly astonishing standings. First of all, it is hard to imagine that this is only the third time Sid hit the 40-goal mark. He scored a career-high 51 way back in 2009-10. Seven times he reached the 60-assist total. In addition, he has been above a PPG for all 19 years of his career. Oh yeah, don’t forget his three Stanley Cup Championships, as well as his two Winter Olympic gold medals.

Sid and His Penguins Focus on the Playoffs
Of course, with all the individual hype, Sid is focused on one thing, getting his Penguins to the post-season. Crosby’s season will not be complete unless he can carry his team into the playoffs for a run at Lord Stanley’s Holy Grail. The Penguins will be in tough if they do make it in. However, with the connection of Sid, with Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang, this is a team you can never really count out. Sid does tend to come alive in the playoffs, and his 201 career playoff points is proof.
